ÒA little piece of paradiseÓ is how Jean-Michel Cazes (Decanter Man of the Year in 2003) described Yarra Yarra during a recent visit.

Yarra Yarra is situated some 60 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, an enjoyable hourÕs drive.
ÒThe best Yarra Valley wines seem to have that rare quality known as ÔbreedÕ, natural finesseÓ. Hugh Johnson, The World Atlas of Wine.

The vineyard totals nine and a half hectares and the vines are planted on well drained northerly and north westerly slopes lying between 75 Ð 140 metres above sea level. The soil is sandy clay loam overlying degenerating Silurian mudstones and clays. It is a low vigour site which ensures small yields and grapes that develop concentrated flavours.

The Yarra Valley is a cool-climate region, cooler than Bordeaux but much warmer than Burgundy. Most of the annual rainfall occurs in winter and spring with an average of some 700mm a year at Yarra Yarra.

Since Yarra Yarra is located at the northern end of the valley which is warmer, it is ideally suited to the Bordeaux varieties and Syrah. Pinot Noir has purposely not been planted as our site is too warm to grow premium Pinot grapes.
